Local government: $20.07
Automobile dealers: $19.61
Automobile repair and maintenance: $15.26
Gas stations: $15.22
Automotive parts, accessories and tire stores: $14.90

Automotive mechanic salary can also depend upon level of education and previous experience, and whether or not a job also involves commission. After completing a training program at a vocational school or community college, consider getting your National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification, and continuing to acquire new skills and knowledge by taking continuing education courses from professional organizations, like the Automotive Service Association.
